Finding new products to sell online is the drive of every online marketer. Whether we are merchants or affiliates finding products that sell is the first key to our success.
First, we need to distinguish between Yahoo product listing and physical products. Physical products can be great, but they're more involved if you're a merchant. You have to consider inventory, cash flow to purchase more goods, shipping. As an affiliate of hard-goods you need to take into consideration what commissions they are paying. Typically hard goods have much lower commission rates than digital goods because there are hard costs involved. There are simply tighter margins.
That's why I recommend promoting digital products. There are no hard costs for digital replication so merchants almost always pay higher commissions. Most rates are between 25%-80%. Physically good rarely pay over 25%, most pay in the 10-15% range.
As a merchant creating a digital good is easier. All it often takes is your time and effort and some miniscule costs for a logo, website, etc. You eliminate inventory and shipping headaches.
Okay, so for this article let's stick with digital products. How do you find digital products to sell?
Good old fashioned research. First, find a niche you're interested in. Maybe it's golf, maybe its alternative energy, maybe it's male pattern baldness. Get a list of ten topics that interest you.
Now find a keyword tool to discover search engine traffic. Maybe we discover ten thousand people every month type into Google: Improve Golf Swing. That's pretty good. That's something to work with.
Now you need to find products that help people improve their golf swings.
You can search on Google, Yahoo, MSN, browse golf forums. Spend an hour getting together a list.
